Isaiah 21:6 “For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.”

In the Bible God ordained three distinct institutions: the home, the church, and civil government. God clearly gives the responsibility for the function of each to his people. Proverbs 29:2 “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn."

All enumerated rights are given to us by God but are secured by government. Phil Stringer says in his book The Foundations of our World, “God holds people responsible for who they allow to rule. God expects the people to demand righteousness from their leaders and he holds the people of a nation accountable for the actions of their leaders.” Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Our mission as watchmen includes the following:

1. To educate and inform the members of Wyldewood Baptist Church regarding proposed legislation and/or pertinent bills that may directly or indirectly affect the lives of God’s people and their ministry through the local church. Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge . . . .”

2. To exhort Christians to exercise their blood-bought freedoms and God-given responsibilities as citizens of the state of Wisconsin and the United States of America, by getting involved  in the electoral and voting process and by letting their voices be heard as they exalt righteous principles and legislation, both locally and across our state and nation. Matthew 5:1 “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

3. To encourage Christians to fervently pray for their leaders, their country, and impending legislation. I Timothy 2:1-2 “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

4. To influence the performance of politicians and public servants so that they will vote righteously. Proverbs 21:1 “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD . . . .”

5. To effect change in the lives of our politicians and public servants through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth . . . .”
